Dexter!!

Named after the fictional serial killer of the same name, because apparently he looks rather sinister. He's meant to be a jelly baby and I completed him a few days ago as the first of my No More Fags For Me! projects.

As you can see, I made many errors, but this is the risk you take when you knit and watch gay sex on the telly at the same time.

Three inches of snow outside, no heating. How typical.

It'll be several days before the blockage causing all the problems can be cleared, but Grandad and I are in good spirits. At least we are now I've given Grandad a stern talking to. Mentally, he can sometimes be quite unstable, but I've managed to snap him out of his childish behavior and now we're both doing whatever we can to 'survive the cold' as he puts it. Portable heaters, hot soup, blankets, Scooby Doo hot water bottle -- just like the war :o/

And now I am cooking the roast dinner we should have had yesterday. OMG, the kitchen is so lovely and warm.

The other plus is that I'm wearing my favourite woolly jumper that I normally can't ever wear because it's too thick and I feel like a sheep in bears' thermals.

20 questions meme

Stolen from [info]foreverbm

1. Where did your LJ handle come from?

My online name started as Sukibluekitty and, if you look close enough, I still go by that name in certain places. When I joined LJ I altered it to Sukibluefiction and then changed it to suki_blue after a year or so. The name came from a children's story my nan used to read me at bedtime, about a little blue kitten called Suki, and if anyone knows the name of the story book this came from, PLEASE tell me because it would make my life to have it again.

2. How do you style your hair?

I have naturally curly hair that's frizzy and turning grey, so I put different crap in it every time and hope for the best. Nothing works.

3. What is making you happy right now?

Oh, all sorts. Life is short and you must grab happiness where you can. I'm excited because I've been a non-smoker for 16 days. I'm happy and proud that my very first knitting project (a jelly baby) is nearly finished. I'm all squeeish because I've found a new pairing to read (Ben/Michael -- QAF). I'm over the moon that my new Grief Counseling story is nearly finished.

4. What are you currently reading?

The contents of my Taboo. I bookmarked maybe forty fics over the last couple of months to be read once GC was done. I have tons of Jack/Ianto, some Xangel and McShep. I'm also about to read some Ben/Michael. Yays.

I'm also reading my backlog of comics.

5. Do you need music to study/write?

I don't need it, but I find music can help. Fight scenes and other fast-paced scenarios are easier to get down if something snappy and exciting is playing in the background.

6. What is the last song on your play list?

Goodbye Apathy by One Republic. I fricking love that song. I find it rather inspiring.

7. What was your first hair dye job?

14 years-old, I tried to go from brown to red. It went orange and then over time faded to purple. Yeah, weird. Luckily, it looked quite funky. It was one of those cheap dyes you get in sachet from the local chemist.

8. Do you have a crush at the moment?

RL crush? No. Fandom crushes? OMG, I don't know where to start. Top of my list is Ianto Jones.

9. What is your favorite movie genre?

Depends on my mood. I love period dramas and comedies, but I'm also a sucker for Christmas films. I used to adore horror films, but I haven't got the stomach for them anymore. Anyone seen a recent film called Eden Lake? I recommend it because it's brilliantly done and I really enjoyed it. I don't think I could watch it again, though. Those kids were far too convincing. I love adventure films, too: Indiana Jones, The Mummy etc

10. What was the last thing you ate today?

Battered sausage and chips from the chippy.

11. What is your favorite color?

All of them. I'm quite into muted green at the moment, but that could change at any time.

12. What websites do you visit daily?

My LJ. Amazon, although I shouldn't because I spend too much money.

13. What's your favorite food?

Pizza!! And if I had to choose a favourite pizza it would be Dominos Texas BBQ closely followed by the Italian Peperoni from Sainsburys.

14. Which languages do you wish you spoke?

French, Italian, German, Japanese ...

15. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People that try to start a conversation with me when I'm reading a book. If you say hi to me and I answer without looking at you, it means DO NOT INTERRUPT! What's worse is when people begin their interruption with 'Sorry to disturb you, but ...'

16. Do you have birthmark?

I used to have one on my knee, but it's faded to nothing.

17. Who was your childhood idol?

Luke Skywalker, The Doctor, Tony Hart, Rolf Harris, probably loads more.

18. Where would you like your next holiday to be?

Well, I'm going to the Hub 2 in Northampton in March so that's my holiday this year. I'm very excited! But if I could choose any destination with any person, it would either be a trip to Egypt with David Hewlett, Australia with Gareth David-Lloyd or Vegas with ALL of my flist. I'd also love to go on one of those writing holidays.

19. What is your favorite chocolate from a box of chocolates?

Strawberry cream

20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you.

I wasn't tagged and I don't know the person I got this from very well yet, but she writes loads of Ben/Michael so that makes her fabulo

Stuffs and Fic News

I thought I was having a rough few days and then I opened my copy of The Colour Purple and realised no, I was not. Sometimes I just need perspective.

I'm way behind on emails and struggling to catch up so apologies for that. The good news is the new Grief Counseling one-shot is nearly done. Yays. It's gone a tad epic (is 'a tad epic' even possible?) and it's no longer a one-shot. It's way too long. Whoops! After it has been completed I shall begin my new project, which is a medium length Xangel set several thousand years in the future. Yup, it's Xangel in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!

I've given up smoking. It's been three days so, please, no medals just yet. I've taken up knitting to give my hands something to do and a combination of that plus SGA S4 seems to be enough to distract me from the cravings for now. Three days of knitting and I have five inches of wonky scarf. I totally blame Rodney McKay.

My friend R brought me some Lush products. The smell is beautiful and VERY potent. The dog put his head in the bag and nearly passed out.

That's all for now. Glad to see we're all still here. I shall now get back to my emails. Love you all.

Just in Case

I have now officially joined the ranks of The Great Livejournal Panic 2009. There is a panic, yes? If not, I wish to start one, lol.

No, seriously, after the demise of Woolworths I'm willing to be cautious about the prospect of any company folding under the pressure of the current financial climate. LJ is no different. It's just me being practical. Therefore I have backed up to LJArchive and re-posted my last 164 posts to my Insanejournal (which I should have done as I went along anyway, otherwise what was the point in having it).

If anyone else is interested in protecting their Livejournal posts from potentially disappearing, please see THIS POST. I followed this advice in 2007 and again tonight and it's done me proud

I have just backed up 164 LJ posts to this journal using LJ-Sec. If I have screwed up anyone's flist, I'm so so sorry.

New year, new layout. I'm going with a Nero banner this time. I think my infactuation with him will last as long as the game does, so best give him banner time while the urge is hot.

As years went, 2008 was okay. Some of it was fantabudastic, some of it made me wish I'd been born anyone but me and some of it was just fine.

I passed my OU course with a distinction, wrote two original novels, attended [info]writerconuk, found several new fandoms, read a shit-load of books, comics, magazines and fanfic, got to know my family a little more ...

No wonder I'm exhausted!

My favourite books of 2008 were Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider books, Mark Haddon's A Spot of Bother and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and The House at Riverton by Kate Morton.

My favourite film was Iron Man. Not a good year for films. I actually found The Dark Knight to be somewhat of a disappointment. I feel a chick-flick phase approaching.

My fabourite TV shows were Torchwood, Doctor Who, Merlin and The Apprentice (When is that back on? I need some Sugar).

My favourite fandom was Torchwood (Jack/Ianto).

My favourite fics were Time Enough (Jack/Ianto) by [info]veronicaluv, It Didn't Start Like This (Jack/Ianto) by [info]szm, Take a Sad Song and Make it Better (Harry/Draco) by [info]femmequixotic and Drop Dead Gorgeous (Harry/Draco) by Mistful.

My favourite dog was Indy, my favourite socks the red, stripy, fluffy ones, my favourite PJs the purple Eeyore with checked bottoms, favourite slippers the red slip-ons with pom poms. Fav perfume J-Lo Glow, fav body cream Molton Brown Yuan Zhi, fav people YOU GUYS!!!

Demons

Just watched episode one of the new ITV drama Demons, Britain's answer to BTVS, and my opinion is as follows:

No.

The Eleventh Doctor

Matt Smith is the new Doctor. I can't say I know him at all and I'm rather disturbed by his lack of eyebrows, but he's got that quirky look I was hoping for. He's young, though, which is rather worrying.

BUT, I shall give him a fair chance. Despite his age and the eyebrow issue, he does have great hair. Hurrah for Eleven!

OMG!

11th Doctor revealed TOMORROW on BBC1

I'm not sure I'll make it home from work in time, but I shall Sky-Plus it just in case. OMG! I can't tell you how excited and terrified I am. Oh why do I have to work!?!?! I need the whole day to prepare for this!!

Whoops! I Blame the Doctor.

It's possible I've already broken one of my New Year's resolutions, which was to spend less money. But these were exceptional circumstances, I'm sure you'll all agree. How could I not buy THESE, THESE and THESE?

Actually, I technically haven't spent any money because they're not out until Feb, and if I promise not to buy any books or DVDs or games that month it won't count, right?

EDIT: Have been offline reading Dickens all day so I owe emails liek whoa. Will definitely reply tomorrow, and know I haven't forgotten anyone, I'm just super busy slack.

What a Morning

I've had a good but weird morning so far. Grandad woke up in a much better mood, so that immediately put me emotionally in a much better place. I then threw my John Barrowman album all the way across my bedroom. No, I wasn't in a strop. It was a rather spectacular accident. I was just putting the empty case down on top of all the other CDs I've got piled up next to my clapped-out stereo, and my mind wandered far away; the next thing I knew I was doing the one-object-juggle and the CD was flying across the room. Whoops! A few minutes later I squirted my Simplicity face cream all over my duvet. But things didn't stop there, oh no. Next, while squidging more gloopy stuff into the palm of my hand, I managed to knock over EVERYTHING on my vanity shelf, and after I picked it all up one-handed, I rubbed my palms together and applied my Charles Worthington Non-Frizz Curl Activator -- to my face. I'm expecting my cheeks to spiral and kink any moment now.

Next, the dog chased the cat and I ran screaming after the dog. I feel like I've stepped into a cartoon.

In better news, [info]literati made me Devil May Cry 4 icons. Hot-t-t-t-t-t-t-t! Thank you, honey bee!

Got my copy of Assassin's Creed this morning. £8.99. Bargain. I'm very much looking forward to some good old-fashioned killing and slaughter.

I shall leave you with that thought. I'm off to [info]big_ball's place in about an hour for my third Christmas. L will be joining us later and my tummy is rumbling in anticipation of BB's annual buffet.

Hope you're all having a great day.

EDIT: I notice some of my LJ images are missing. Mood theme, banner, a few icons. I hope it isn't just me.

It's been a weird couple of days. Grandad hasn't been behaving himself and we've had 'antics'. I won't go into it, but he's always been a handful and always will be. At times like this I need to remind myself that I need to be a little stronger and take things less to heart.

But never fear! I cheered myself up with some online shopping! I bought Gareth David-Lloyd's audio books. All of them. Am particularly looking forward to the Cthulhu ones. My ex was a massive Lovecraft fan and I caught a bit of the love from him. He used to read some of the stories to me, and now weirdly even five years later, the stories aren't the same when I read them myself. Now I have Gareth to read them to me! Yays!

In Devil May Cry 4 news, I'm still adicted, and every moment I play I fall a little bit more in love with Nero ~points to icon~ I went looking for Dante/Nero fic yesterday and joined a few comms. Haven't found much in the way of fic yet. It seems the fandom takes 'uke' a little too literally. Come on, I'm a short way into the game and I can already see that he's a confident, cocky, tough, talented, part-demonic warrior. I doubt very much he's going to cry during sex.

FLAIL!

I want to rec Jigsaw Cuts by [info]velvetwhip. It's Spander and it's fabulous. Beautiful writing that's so clearly right from the author's heart. All too often Spike and Xander are written as cardboard, cliche characters, but this is the complete opposite of that. All from Spike's POV, he's canon, believable and perfect.

I don't want to spoil anything for you, but I will warn that this is angsty, proper ouchie that hurts my very soul. Do remember that I'm a wuss, though. Also remember, the end isn't always the end.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas. It's very quiet here. Grandad has been asleep for much of the day, which leaves me to my own devices. That would actually be quite nice, but unfortunately he stirs every time I so much as twitch towards the remote control. Despite this, I did manage to get in a couple of hours of gaming on my PS3 and I would like to announce my brand new crush.

Nero

Photobucket

And Dante

Photobucket

From Devil May Cry 4. OMG, it's an awesome game and I don't totally suck at it, which is unusual for me with a game that involves running, jumping and fighting. I have a feeling Nero is going to be my new Cloud.

Got lots of prezzies. Feel a bit spoiled, actually. Merlin soundtrack, Harry Connick Jr. CD, Le Morte d'Arthur and the first Blood Ties novel from my darling [info]amejisuto. The new Martin Clunes book and Jason Donovan album from my gorgeous [info]kitty_poker1. EEEEEEEEEE, thank you, guys!. Molton Brown goodies and a funny book of typos from R. And from Grandad, PS3 games, DW audio book, DW S4, House S3, Smallville S6 and Primeval S1&2.

The highlight of the day was the dinner, which came out perfectly and even earned me a pat on the shoulder and a 'You done good, girl,' from Grandad. High praise indeed.

Second highlight was the DW Christmas Special. Yes, it was brilliant. Loved it. Major spoilers under the cut (and please scroll down because some people track and the cuts don't show up).

The Next Doctor )

On a totally seperate note, I'm watching Wallace and Gromit and I'm stunned that I didn't realise before how much Gromit reminds me of Ianto.

Christmas Post + Christmas Rec

Merry Christmas to you all for tomorrow. May you all have much fun and food and prezzies, and for those of you who are able to watch it, do enjoy the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Here is a festive rec for you, from the DC Comics fandom. The Visitor: A Christmas Ficlet by [info]freddylloyd It's a Christmas Dick and Tim (Nightwing and Robin) genfic. And it rhymes. Seriously. I admire anyone that can master any kind of poetry, and this is sheer genius. It's totally brilliant, sweet and funny, and really put a massive smile on my face. It's only 656 words so do give it a go and get some Christmas cheer.

Christmas Day Number 1

I went to Slough on Saturday to have Christmas with my mum, sisters, brother, neices and nephew plus others. Had a lovely day and came back with arm-fulls or prezzies including perfume, a big wicker basket filled with toiletries, jewellery, Torchwood Calender, and the most beautiful fairy ornament from my mum. All the kids seemed to like the prezzies I bought them and it was lovely to watch them open and play with them.

The best part of the day was actually the car journey home. Me, my mum and my 5-year-old niece were crammed into the back seat and little S insisted on playing eye-spy, hide the pony, and the Christmas tree game all the way home. We were certainly glad to hide the clippety-clopping, madly neighing pony and what a shame that Mum and I hid it and then somehow accidentally forgot where we put it. Such a shame. Anyway, we had a great time and laughed until we cried most of the way home. I won the Christmas tree game.

When I got back, I discovered that my PS3 had been delivered and Grandad (not wanting to subject me to any sort of cruelty) had unpacked it so I could have it before Christmas. Very generous. Nothing at all to do with his keenness to see it in action, lol. Anyway, it's brilliant and I'm totally addicted to Little Big Planet. At least I would be if I actually got to play it. Had a migraine all day Sunday and worked late today, plus have been shopping, wrapping more presents, cooking, and nattering on the phone. It's a hard life :oD
